📚 About the CFA Program
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program is a globally recognized, graduate-level credential offered by the CFA Institute. It consists of three progressive levels of examinations that test investment management and financial analysis skills. The program covers ethics, quantitative methods, economics, financial reporting, corporate finance, equity investments, fixed income, derivatives, alternative investments, and portfolio management. Upon completing all three levels and meeting work experience requirements, candidates earn the prestigious CFA charter.
The CFA exam consists of three progressive levels:
Level I: Tests knowledge and comprehension of investment tools and concepts. 180 multiple-choice questions.
Level II: Emphasizes application and analysis. 88 item-set questions based on vignettes.
Level III: Focuses on synthesis and evaluation for portfolio management. Combination of essay questions and item sets.
Each level must be passed sequentially, and candidates typically spend 300+ hours preparing for each level.
To register for CFA Level I, you must meet ONE of these requirements:
1. Have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
2. Be in your final year of bachelor's degree program
3. Have 4,000 hours of qualified work experience (approximately 4 years full-time)
4. Have a combination of work and college experience totaling 4,000 hours
Additionally, you need an international travel passport and must meet professional conduct admission criteria.
CFA exam pass rates vary by level and exam window, but the 10-year average pass rates are approximately:
Level I: 42-44%
Level II: 45-47%
Level III: 52-56%
At Concepts 'n' Clarity, our students consistently achieve 90%+ pass rates, significantly higher than global averages. This is due to our structured approach, expert faculty, comprehensive materials, and personalized attention.
Most candidates complete the CFA Program in 2.5 to 4 years. The minimum time is approximately 2.5 years if you:
- Pass each level on your first attempt
- Take exams in consecutive windows
- Meet the work experience requirement
However, the average timeline is 3-4 years when accounting for study time, exam scheduling, and the possibility of retakes. Additionally, you must complete 4,000 hours (approximately 4 years) of qualified work experience before receiving your charter.
📝 Exam Format & Registration
The CFA Level I exam consists of:
- 180 multiple-choice questions
- Divided into two 135-minute sessions
- Computer-based testing (CBT)
- Each question has three answer choices
- Total testing time: 4 hours 30 minutes
The exam covers 10 topic areas with varying weights, with Ethics and Quantitative Methods being particularly important.
CFA Institute offers multiple exam windows throughout the year. Registration opens approximately 8-9 months before each exam window and closes about 3-4 weeks before the exam.
There are three registration periods with different fees:
Early Registration: Lowest fee (closes 6-8 months before exam)
Standard Registration: Standard fee (closes 3-5 months before exam)
Final Registration: Highest fee (closes 3-4 weeks before exam)
We strongly recommend registering during the early period to save money and ensure adequate preparation time.
There is no limit to the number of times you can attempt each level of the CFA exam. However, you can only attempt each level once per exam window. The CFA Institute offers four exam windows per year for Level I (February, May, August, November), making it possible to retake the exam relatively quickly if needed.
That said, proper preparation is crucial. Our coaching program is designed to help you pass on your first attempt, with our students achieving 90%+ pass rates.
CFA Level I exams are offered in four windows each year:
- February (typically mid to late February)
- May (typically mid to late May)
- August (typically late August)
- November (typically mid to late November)
Each window lasts approximately one week. You can choose your preferred test center and date within the window when you register. Visit our Coaching Details page to see the complete schedule with registration deadlines.
